Peter Bauer

Bauer is the deputy director of research at the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts in Reading, England. In 1992, he obtained his doctorate in meteorology from the University of Hamburg in Germany. After working for the German Aerospace Center, and postdoctoral and visiting scientist appointments at NOAA and NASA in the U.S. and at Pierre-Simon Laplace Institute in France, he joined ECMWF in 2000. He headed the satellite section and model division at ECMWF before assuming his current role, which also includes preparing the ECMWF forecasting system for future generations of supercomputers.
