The Department of Geology at Bates College invites applications for a replacement position beginning fall 2019. The successful candidate must demonstrate potential for teaching excellence in a vigorous undergraduate program, welcome the opportunity for close interaction with serious students in a senior thesis advisory role, and share with other members of the department responsibility for General Education courses. Field-based laboratory projects and collaboration with departmental colleagues offer a wide range of instructional opportunities. 

The position is a full time, one-year sabbatical replacement in structural geology and tectonics. In the fall semester, the successful candidate will teach an introductory course with laboratory in plate tectonics with some component of field geology and a sophomore/junior level course with laboratory in structural geology. In the winter semester, the candidate will teach an earth science themed GIS course or an upper level course in the area of their own expertise. During the spring Short Term semester (May) the candidate will teach a 5-week immersion course on and or off campus in the area of their own expertise. Facilities include a staff-supported Imaging and Computing Center, GIS and mobile GIS capabilities, and a structure laboratory. A full-time departmental assistant in instruction provides logistical support for the introductory laboratory.
